The film Dune, which hit the Oscars 2022, also has an Indian connection. The VFX work of this film, which won the Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category, is done by the company DNEG, its CEO is an Indian Namit Malhotra, who also has a special connection with Bollywood.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Anurag Thakur has also congratulated the company and Namit Malhotra by tweeting. He tweeted, “Congratulations to DNEG VFX & Animation Studios, CEO Namit Malhotra, on Dunne winning an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category. India is rapidly moving towards leadership in the fields of animation, visual effects, games and comics. We are ready to showcase our talent to the world amidst increasing demand.
In an old interview given to a media house, Namit had also talked about the nomination of his company. He said, ‘It is a very special feeling. It was the first James Bond film to be nominated in this category. Dune, on the other hand, is a new benchmark for its visual effects. Namit’s company has worked on visual effects for many Hollywood movies like The Dark Knight Rises, Sherlock Holmes, Dunkirk, Altered Carbon, Chernobyl, Last Night in Soho, Foundation.
